Deep in the Heart of Texas...

I'm a lucky girl. Lucky for many reasons, but on this day, it was because of Kama and Chris. I got to meet Kama because she is very good friends with my very good friend, Kasey. Kama is getting married to Chris this Fall, and I get to be her photo girl. Whew! What a mouth full!

As you can see, we did some lovebird pictures in Texas! Home of the 10 gallon hat! And yes, I had to see if I could get anyone to sing "Deep in the Heart of Texas" with me, a la Pee Wee...I did, by the way...all three times I tried! Our shuttle driver even sang the entire next verse for me. What a champ!

Anyway, digressing...Texas was beautiful in early Spring. But even if it hadn't been, check out the cuteness I had the pleasure of meeting:

This adorable gentleman's name is Decker. I tried to sneak him into my suitcase for the flight home. What an adorable little love! Kama and Chris are so very lucky to have him as their baby.

Speaking of love, the love Kama and Chris have for each other is infectious. I had a tough time picking out just a few favorites because the emotions they let me capture took my breath away. They are both so kind and soo funny. And they're both easy on the eyes. I'm so happy to have new friends in sunny Texas. Check out some of my favorties from the day:

Also, thanks for Fogo de Chao (or as Jay likes to call it, "Festival of Meaty Goodness"), the tour of Dealey Plaza, frozen beers, the fun at the Londoner Pub...oh, and for being AWESOME. You are my favorites, for sure!

I simply cannot wait to see you in 5 months! And you can absolutely leave Decker at my place while you're on your honeymoon? Eh, I had to try. :)

Kama and Chris's lovebird shoot reminded me of how much I love to travel and explore new places. If you don't live in the Parkersburg, WV area, don't rule me out. I'll jump on a plane tomorrow to get to you!

The start of a new idea...

Hefty "Thank You"s to Vickie and her family for starting a little inadvertent fire in my brain. Vickie asked me to document her family at a small reunion early Spring, in the Parkersburg area. And I have to admit, I was a bit nervous at first...

For the most part, in recent months, I'd gotten my joy from chasing little kids around and encouraging lovebirds to be sappy with each other. Catching a connection in my camera can be so addictive for me, and I have gotten fairly comfy with looking for connections between people in love. I've also found a certain bliss in surrounding myself with the silliness and purity of children. I know how to find my zones in these two places to an okee dokey extent, and I like to think that's because I'm very happily in love, and I enjoyed the freedom of being a little kid.

But family stories are not as often in my "zone". When there are that many people in one spot, it can be crazy to get all peoples involved to focus together, and to encourage everyone to blend and be sappy, silly, etc. I love my family, and I love Jay's family...and I often love just about every family I've ever met. I really, really enjoy families that are very close. You can feel it when you're around them, and you know how important they all are to each other. And I noticed this at Vickie's reunion.

Photography, to me, is more than a snapshot. I need to find connections in a photo or it's not fun for me. So how can I get this feeling from family hang outs? How can I expand on simpler connections, on a greater scale? This shoot sparked all of these questions, and made me realize some things...

I did really enjoy my shoot with Vickie's family. I think it was amazing to have an entire morning to focus on the ways people connect outside of sappy lovebird-ness. The fire I spoke of before was the reminder that family connects just as amazingly as lovebirds do, and that adults have the same pure joy as children...just in different ways. I plan on spending the next couple of years finding any way possible to get inside the hearts of a family, and then to document this in any way possible-interviews, photos, videos, etc.

I plan on doing a great deal of my exploring within my own family, and have already started my project with my mom, aunt and grandma. I'm hoping it continues to remind me of how great it is to have so much family around me, and that each connection I have is so intricately part of who I am. I'm just glad I figured this lesson out before I missed even more of my family.

As a result of this project, I plan on offering more inclusive coverage of family stories/trees. I really want to start making heirloom family albums for families, and would like to start doing so at a discounted rate to get my ideas worked out.

In my heart, each family will need several sessions to create a more thorough story. I'd like to spend a couple of months with each family, interviewing them, photographing their relationships, traditions and conections, and compiling their memories into hand made photo albums to be passed down through the generations.

I know this is a winded entry, but I have a ton in my brain right now. You can see why I've been putting off writing for a bit, huh? ;) And I still have 10 more biggie stories to share before I get to the small details...

Would love feedback on this. Please let me know if you'd like to be a part of this project, and I'll gladly give ya more details. You must have plans to see as much of your family as possible over the next year, and most of your family should be within 2 hours(ish) of the Parkersburg area (unless you want to put me up for a few days). And, you must really love your family.

Dear You,

I know I've been a bad friend. I've been the gal who said she'd stop by and visit here, but "stuff" got in the way. I've let you down, and I'm soooo sorry! I do have photo evidence, though. I have proof that these things happened...many cool things and many crazy things. I intend to fill you in on every bit of stuff that's happened over the past coupla months that brought me to today. Life-changing stuff, sweet stuff, silly stuff, photo experiments, new friends and the bestest photo sessions...

The Best Month!

Yep, this is exactly what happens when I'm invited to an 80s party...if you have a minute to check out my mini-album on Facebook, there are a few more ridiculous images there. But why do anything at all if you can't enjoy it? :)

This time of year is, for a bunch of photographers, the best time to pick up new skills, learn new photo tricks, and meet new people. The rest of the year can sometimes get so crazy that we are working, working, working. But for now, it's time to learn and hang out. Yay!

I'm also super excited about all the new friends I've been meeting at the conferences and workshops I've been lucky enough to be a part of...including the 3-day workshop I'm super-pumped about next week: BLEND

Speaking of new friends, conferences and workshops...from this coming Saturday, I'll be out of town...until the following Friday (March 21-27), and I'll be sure to post pictures documenting the whole experience. Saturday through Monday sends me to Dallas, TX to photograph my wedding friends, Kama and Chris. My only photo-request is a 10 gallon hat, and I'm keeping my photo-dorky fingers crossed! Then on Monday, I'll be swinging over to Santa Fe, NM for BLEND. Yippeeee!! I'll be learning and shooting with some of my favorite photo heroes of all time. I'm still pinching myself about the whole experience.

Also, a special "Awesome" goes out to Mr. Danny Leary , for giving his "Complete Wedding Photographer" class on Monday in Huntington, WV...and for being the beginning event of the new Pro-Photo group, "Oh, Snap!". Oh, Snap is a fun little pet project I've been wanting to start up for a while now, and finally had the push to get it going. There are soo many amazing photographers in WV, and I didn't think we were hanging out enough. So, this is my little contribution to the love of photo. ;)

Michele Coleman posted a fun slideshow from our first lunch/class on her blog, if you want to see the photo-peoples in "hang-out" mode, check it out. I do apologize for the crazy alligator, though.

Renee and Chase...

Crisp Breezes. Wind. Loving Kisses. Dancing Laughter. Holding Hands. Still Moments. :)

Every time I look through Renee and Chase's lovebird pics, I'm moved. Sure, I know them. Sure I was there. But I hope when you look through their images, you'll see past their too-cute nervousness (they were convinced they couldn't take a good picture-but I secretly think they're undercover supermodels) and see them for what I see in them-that this is what love looks like when you really "get it". The adoring looks they gave each other...sometimes fleeting but still so potent, the laughter so unbridled, the way they held each other...the way their eyes just danced about. They reminded me a lot of me and my Jay-and reminded me of the giddy peace I have every single day. It's so great to find that in others and help them see it, to identify it, to share it.

I thank my stars every morning for having the chance to document reminders like this, that good love is all around us.

I have been so lucky to be such an involved-ish part of Andrew and Kayte's lives so far. I've seen them more than some of my own family in the past year, because they're growing so quickly. And here we are already, at their first birthday. I don't see how it's possible that they've reach one already. But I got to be an honored guest at their first of many huge blowout parties...I didn't mean the cheesiness there...it just happened. Just like when you see these two and fall in love...you have no choice-it's compulsive.

And man.....they're cute. Seer iii oussss lyyy cute. Sure, all babies are cute, but these two know how to take the cake. I said it...it's officially out there. Come on, how often do I have the chance to work in cheesy humor while working...okay, you got me...

But you have to admit they're fantastically cute. I love how they treat me like they really know me in the images...Kayte even climbed up on my lap while I was photographing her. I could eat them both with spoons. :)

Happy birthday, beautifuls! Can't wait to see you again. :)

I don't do many senior sessions...but when I make an exception, it's for really amazing seniors. :) When I spoke with Olivia (actually, texted is more like it), we pretty much figured out that she wanted something different. She wanted to travel around Marietta, have fun, be outside...and I was giddy. I really enjoyed myself, photographing Ms. Olivia-every single part of the day was really fun. I hurt a little from laughing all day. And you could not even tell how chilly it was in these pics, cause this mama was on fire! Check 'er out....

I also adore, adore newborns. I find a kind of joy photographing a brand new little one that I can't find in other spaces. I love the peace they seem to have, even when they let out a little cry. Their teeny toes and fingers, and the amazing depth their little eyes have when they finally open and they try to see you...amazing. I was so lucky to stop by Ms. Isabella's delivery room and snap a few images of her being welcomed to her family.

I really love family photos. I love when people take the time to document whatever day we meet up-could be a random day in their lives. I love when people let me just catch them being themselves-laughing, hugging, goofing off. I love when people trust me enough to share the soft, warm moments that they'll desperately want to remember years from now, when everything isn't just a random day...

I met up with Tatum and Grayer recently and am still touched by the cool little stills we made together. Here are some I love the most. :)

New 09 Dates Open-Yippee!!

Hey bestest friends...had a bizarre series of circumstances pop up over the last couple of weeks, causing some previously scheduled plans (Big, Bad, Euro Trip...) to change until 2010. I have a handful of weekends that can now be reserved for weddings/sessions, and I'll list the dates below. I'll be adjusting my web site's wedding calendar soon, but wanted to give the head's up here, first. :)

Cool Project #2-the Neon Graveyard Photo Shoot

I've always seen pictures of this place and thought they were amazing. When I heard there was a photo session being planned for this bee-you-tiful location, I jumped at the chance. When I showed up and the models were all perfect, I had to wipe a little tear from my eye. I had so much fun taking pictures here, I must have looked like the huge-est dork EVER! All I could do was say how much fun it was to be shooting there. The more I thought about it? There's no reason whatsoever I can't do fun stuff like this at home. So...be on the lookout for a kamikaze session (or a dozen) sweeping through your neighborhood...it only helps to keep my photo-brain fresh, and it's great for keeping in touch with my fellow photographers.

To be honest, I'm probably one of the least competitive people in the biz, so I'm so excited to hang out with other photogs, and learn a thing or two (and hopefully share a thing or two from my end). I am hoping to spread the love I felt in Vegas with people back here in WV. I'm excited to see what the Midwest can create. The Vegas Wedding Project-Valentine's Day

Cool project #1-documenting the Vegas Wedding Chapel "Subculture" on one of their most popular days of the year. I jumped at the chance to photograph The Little White Wedding Chapel, as they not only had a wedding drive-thru, but glittering Elvi. Ah, the stuff dreams are made of-especially in sunny Las Vegas!

I met some of the coolest people on this day-two of which still bring smiles to my face when I think of their wedding. From Washington, England, they thought it would be fun to have their wedding at the "Little White". The bride wore a Fairy costume, and the groom...was Spider Man! Ah! I was in love!!

I also got to cross "Document Elvis Wedding" off my bucket list. Mr. Elvis hung out in a pink Cadillac with the B&G, and followed them inside to a chapel to sing classic Elvis songs in celebration of their nuptials. I know ever single bride reading this is so jealous, so I've included a few pics to help stave off that feeling of sadness, knowing this may never be at your wedding. Yeah, pretty fabulous, indeed!

The Joys of Glittering Elvi...

That's my plural for multiple Elvises-and they were there...so many!

Every year, I return from my Vegas photo-trip a slightly changed photo-dork. This year lived up to those expectations, and then some. Just when I thought I could get no dorkier about photo...Vegas got me. I had the biggest privilege of being a part of two huge projects while in town this time-the Vegas Wedding Project, and the Neon Graveyard Photo shoot.

To make things even better for my whole Vegas immersion, I made it a point to try and meet as many of my photo heroes as possible. I hugged several of them! I explosive fist bumped one! I told many of them how big of a deal they were to me. And one of my super-heroes is even my "new best friend"! ;) Meet the amazing Mr. Jose Villa. I'll be joining him (and the super-duper inspiring Jesh de Rox), for a bit o exploration in Santa Fe, New Mexico in about 3 weeks. I am pinching myself at the opportunity. I think I'll have no choice at that point but to be absolutely amazing, or fear offending the phenomenal people whose company I'll be in. I'll be sure to post lots of goodness on here from that journey. And to make things the best they could possibly be-I'll be swinging by the Dallas, TX area on my way to Santa Fe, to do a really cool engagement session with my friends Kama and Chris. They're getting married this October. Yay!

Digressing! Other highlights from Vegas were getting inspiration for promoting myself, my interest in destination weddings and photo sessions, embracing my inner dork (thanks to Tanja Lippert), having amazing food, catching up on fine dining at the Vegas Buffets, and...this thingy:

This thing became my mild obsession while staying at the MGM Grand Hotel...in the restaurant area was this little interactive floor pad with three different themes. You could jump on it, or even just sweep your feet over the surface, and the stuff would scatter or change. Tooooo much fun! Jay took this pic of my on the last day, as I wanted to forever immortalize my love for this "fun floor". My favorite theme was the one featured here-bubbles that would scatter and fly all about when you moved near them. You have to trust me here...if you'd been there, you would have been mildly obsessed, too!

Jessica is one of my brides-isn't she awesome?!

I also went to a really great convention (PPWV) in Morgantown over the weekend. I got to reconnect with some old friends, make new friends, learn a few tricks along the way, hang out with the crew from my photo lab, and hang out with my awesome "lovebird" friends, David and Dusty. Dusty is starting a photo career, so look out WV! Also, if you're a WV area photographer, keep your eyes peeled for a new way to network and connect coming in the next few months. Off to take care of my sick hubby. :( I caught the MOV cold last week and lovingly passed it on to him. It's good though, he can get all better before our Vegas trip this weekend...can't be sick in Vegas, right? But I'm still sad..so icky! Everybody stay warm!

Vegas bound!!

Hey friends! I am excited to tell you I'll be in Sunny Las Vegas from the 13th-20th of February (leaving a week from this Friday, gone for a week) so that I can attend the very best Photography convention, ever-WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International). http://www.wppionline.com . Every year, for the past 3 years (this is my fourth time-Hooray!), I've gone to this convention, and it has in some way changed my life. I learn all the new trends, see amazing new products, and make friends with some of my photo heroes! I get so pumped for this trip every year! And this year it happens to fall on Valentine's weekend...

So a few new things have been planned:

First, Jay is going to be there with me (though he does always go to Vegas with me, this year it's on THE sappy romantic weekend), and we're having cajun food for Valentine's dinner-yummmmm...

I am a member of the Vegas Wedding Project, where a small group of us will be documenting the Vegas Chapel scene during the day on Valentine's Day....Ooh! Ooh! So exciting! I am particularly drawn to the Glittery Elvis and Drive Thru Weddings! C'mon, it's Vegas!

I've signed up to take some classes with some of my photo heroes: Jesh de Rox , and Jose Villa

I know this alone will be a life-changing decision. :)

I'm involved a head shot session from Mr. [b]ecker! Yiiippeeee!!

And I'm keeping my shaking little photo-dork fingers crossed for a chance to shoot a sunrise shoot with thee Jasmine Star. Ooh! I'd be such a happy kitty..suucchhhh a happy kitty-you don't even know!

Plus, I will be there to help out some newbies and hopefully inspire brand new photographers to keep pushing and following their passions...oh! That reminds me...

This coming Sunday, I'll be giving a little presentation at the Blennerhassett Bridal Show (Parkersburg, WV, Sunday the 8th of February. Show is 2-5. Presentation is around 3ish?) on choosing your photography/photographer. Plus I'll have a little space set up right outside the ballroom (where the presentations and fashion show are taking place). and there will be Cindy Cake!!!

So stop on by...and did I mention free munchies, a guy lounge, and goodies given away all day?

But briefly digressing to my upcoming travel schedule...

And the best first wedding of the year that I could ask for: Racheal and Nathan...

Racheal and Nathan appealed to every part of me that loves people and weddings: true love, live acoustic music, huge amounts of love for family, willingness to go along with my somewhat silly requests, touching moments, smiles from the eyes...you get the idea. :)

But when you look at Racheal and Nathan, you can't help but see souls full of life, journeys lived with passion and kindness, and the ability to be unabashedly silly and laugh at my jokes (yay!). It's like winning the "wedding model lottery", espcially when you tie in how beautiful they both are.

On that chilly, first Saturday of January, here are the goodies that keep coming back to mind...

Nathan wore his father's watch on his wedding day (his father has passed), and his grandpa was his best man.

Again, that whole "laughing at my jokes" thing will get you far!

Ooh! The yummy cupcake tree that was quickly devoured by the guests...

The emotional slideshow played at the reception...not a dry eye in the whole place...

The connection the newlyweds have to each other-it was so evident in the communion-I was speechless...

Seeing how proud Racheal's daddy was of her...

Nathan's super-classy grandma! She was so pulled-together and stunning. I can only hope to be her when I grow up...

The family photo we grabbed after the ceremony! Can I just emphasize how cool this is? Everybody in the family, from both sides, me on a huge ladder and the big party/hug that is your family? LOVE it!

And the kindness, the genuine kindness both of them have, for each other and every person they come into contact with. It's inspirational, and makes me proud to not only be their photographer, but to know I get to be involved with genuinely good people. :)

Alison and David's Wedding-you had me at Binary Code...

Okay, I have to admit, I'm not quite privy to the patterns of binary code. But let me tell you, Alison and David have it all down! One of the many things they have in common is their love for computers (binary code, for those who don't know, is the series of 0s and 1s that computer programming is made of). They are also both in the US Navy. But, believe it or not, they are stationed on opposite sides of the country! I cannot even imagine being more than a couple of hours aways form my hubby, especially right after we got married! But they are makin' it work.

The very cute thing is, when they do get together, they are exceptionally adorable. It's not too often I see a couple who is downright bubbly to just be near one another. They're like little kids in a candy store, even when they can just hug each other.

SO many things I loved about this wedding:
Alison's bouquet-I've NEVER seen anything even close to it!

The red accents mixed into the wedding day-the Chinese color for good luck. :)

Alison's creative family playing the music, and recording video for the ceremony.

The weather was remarkable for December in WV-in the 70s! So we got to go outside without stress...

And the sunset that evening was soo beautiful!

The ceremony was at the same location as the reception-so nice for flow, and easy for travel. And on that note...

David and Alison wanted to do all of their photos before the ceremony. Yay! While I'm never pushy with this subject, it's so fantastic when a couple decides to share that "first sight" in a more private setting...only to be able to intimately document their facial expressions/reactions without being watched by all your guests. It's also fantastic to group all the "formal" shots into one session, so that when the ceremony is over, it truly is time to party!

I wanted to make both David's and Alison's families my own. Each member of their family (since they're combined now, right?) has the gift of making you feel like you're the most important person, ever. Meeting the family felt like I was home...

The way Alison's dad worked his own camera, I should have asked him to be my assistant. He is quite the kind and funny man, and gave me some good advice about having children:

"Every thing your children do, embrace it. If they are kind, embrace it. If they are sick, embrace it... They will grow up so fast, so embrace every part of their lives."

I can only hope to be as proud a mama as he is a papa, of his children and family. And he and his wife (and David's parents and family) have every right to be so proud. Thank you all for being an inspiration to be a good person.

Dedication personified-the wedding of Courtney and Stephen

What do you get when you combine hand-written vows, a bunch of supportive friends, a be-you-tee-ful couple, lots of emotion, freezing cold temperatures and apendicitis?? You get Stephen and Courtney's wedding, of course!

My goodness, what a bunch of memorable events surrounded Stephen and Courtney's wedding. Family came in from all over-from the armed forces, even. :) And on such a cold day, everyone still felt the warm fuzzies. The day was fun and romantic, and personalized in every thinkable way. I knew Courtney and Stephen were ready to do every imaginable thing needed to get married, but when I'd heard Stephen was in the hospital, the day before the rehearsal, having an emergency appendectomy, I really discovered how committed they were to each other, and to enjoying their perfect day.

Highlights from Courtney and Stephen's wedding:

When they trusted me enough to run outside in super-duper cold temperatures, to get some pretty amazing wedding images. We got some of my favorites from the day during that quick excursion...

The "Rules" of conduct, posted in the guys'getting ready room. To be honest, they could have been there before the guys even showed up. But I loved them, nonetheless...

During the personalized vows, Stephen mentioned that he knew Courtney was made for him, because of the way her head fit perfectly in the curve of his shoulder. :)

The connection you could see, even from the back of the sanctuary, during their wedding prayer...

Despite the stitches, Stephen spontaneously dipping Courtney, and rolling around on the floor during dance time at the reception. He said he refused to look back on their wedding with regrets...and he came out virtually unscathed!...

The enthusiasm with which the wedding party went out of their way to ham for the camera-ha! And on that note-how very important it was to catch that bouquet! Wow! The battle for the Boq!...

And just the silliness, sappiness and happiness that was the experience. To me, it was the perfect blend!

Natalie and Eric's beautiful wedding

I had the pleasure of photographing a wedding where both the bride and groom could compete for "smile that makes you feel fantastic". The kind of smile that you always see in their eyes. The smile of someone who's truly happy, and just makes you happy by proxy.

I discovered this at Natalie and Eric's engagement session...where a "once-unsure-of-pictures" Eric quickly became the "guy with ideas". And by the end, it was right at "campy fantastic". Of course, this transferred over to the wedding day-all of it-the fantastic smiles that made me (and everyone) feel fantastic, the fun, random ideas, and even a healthy dose of competition, to see who could have the most fun in the photos, and who could jump the highest (I have to say, I think the guys baaarrelllyy won this one! But it was a close call). We even had an interpretation of a Soap Opera ad/commercial, and had a whole series of pics for that. The one in the images here (where the wedding party are in the pews) was Natalie and Eric as the lead characters in the "Almost Kiss", while everyone was "wrapped with turmoil". LOL

As for other highlights: The tears when Natalie entered with her dad-from all parties involved.

Yes, I mentioned it, but the air each member of the wedding party acheived...wow...

In case I don't mention it enough, cake from The Village Cakery -yay!!! It's the best cake, ever!...

and, quite simply, the love everybody in the family (and all the friends) had for each other. It felt all warm and fuzzy to be there. And when I think back on the wedding, it still makes me feel that way!

It's pretty common for me to photograph great weddings. Great people LEAD to great weddings, so I'm quite comfy with loving my job and documenting the world's best experiences! ;) But from the moment I met Becca and Nathan, I knew they were really fantastic, exceptional people. They skipped right into my heart and raised the bar for what I originally thought was "great".

I know they're already on my webite, and I'm all gushy about them on there, too. But what can I say, I'm a sucker for genuinely kind people-people who you can tell have really found their soul mate, and have so much love to give, they share it with everyone. On top of all this love they have to share, they're both super-creative. Nathan even used to be in a band who's song made it to a movie soundtrack. Sweet! :)

Highlights from Becca & Nathan's wedding:

The huge wedding party (and everyone was so fun!)

The 80's themed rehearsal-a group after my own heart. Every single person at the rehearsal was in full 80's gear, and some people rocked out the most unusual wigs I'd ever seen.

The colors at the reception! Hot pink everywhere-colored lights flooded the reception hall. And I really loved the little napkins making their way around the party-"Eat, Drink, be Married."

Nathan getting crowd surfed after singing at the reception...and the huge video screen that played old-school 80's videos throughout the night.

The final hurrah at the end of the night-out of nowhere, everyone started jumping up and down on the dance floor. I still find random beer spots here and there on my camera bag and some of my flashes. Ha!

And beyond all this, the peace and comfort Nathan and Becca found in each other. You seriously need to hang out with them-can't help but be inspired. Love you guys!

Beth and Jeremy are Newlyweds!

Beth and Jeremy-why must you live all the way in Texas?? From the first time I met Jeremy and Beth I was charmed. Beth has this amazing ability to make you feel like you're best friends at first meeting. And Jeremy and I instantly bonded over 80's metal, so all was great. I loved photographing them as a couple and by themselves, because they were so into having fun, they pretty much created thier own photo-ops all day. Ha! And it was the whole gamut, too, from laughing and truly enjoying the day, to being completely smitten by each other.

Personal highlights from Beth & Jeremy's wedding: Field Trip to the putting green next to the reception right before sunset (so pretty!)...

Including the heirloom bible in the ceremony,

Using Beth's dad's awesome car for the grand exit/entrance,

Beth's laugh-it's so warm, and it makes you feel like you've said the funniest thing in the world.

The cake topper, being a wee bit too heavy for the top of the cake. One last stitch effort was made to see if it would sit on top of the cake, but it failed miserably and went tumbling cake side-taking icing wit it as it tumbled!. And Beth just didn't seem to care!

Seriously...Beth (God love her) falling on he dance floor at least 4 times! I give you so much credit, girl! You did not give up on that slippery party floor, and showed us all how to really celebrate!

And the oppourtunity to meet everyone at this great event. Beth please tell your sister I said hi to "Twitchy" ;) Ha!

Megan and David got married!

If you've ever been through Parkersburg, chances are you've taken a quick trip through the Historic district downtown. This area is full of beautiful homes and churches (all that gorgeous stained glass!), and is a place I'd love to live in. There's one home I have my eye on that looks like a stone castle, with a cute litte turnaround and a fantastic view of the city below...but anywho...Megan and David love this historic area, too, and chose to get married in one of Parkersburg's original churches. Soo pretty!

I'm almost as taken with the historic district as I am Megan and David. Let me tell you, they're super cute together, have great taste in music (Augustana!), and know how to throw a party. There were so many times throughout the day that I laughed so hard, I cried a bit. Ah, you Underwoods. You are dear to my heart.

Fun little notes throughout the day:

David made a little video to play on their wedding day-recorded it on a little video recorder and gave it to Megan the night before. Aw!...

During the ceremony, the unity candle fell over a bit! No one noticed much, because the officiant ran over and fixed it super quick...

Those huge stained glass windows-they let so much pretty, golden light into the sanctuary!...

During the reception, David's mom, her husband, and her best friend did the most hillarious rendition of a "Romi & Michelle"esque dance routine that tickled me like little does. And my bro-in-law made a guest appearance during reception time, to show people how to truly enjoy "New York, New York"!...

Can you say this day was fun? Absolutely. Do you think I'll ever forget it? Most definitely not.

New Stuff on my Official Blog Day...

So I figured this image was pretty appropriate, considering where my head has been. This is actually the sign on one of the places I ate dinner during one of my weddings, and it cracked me up. But it's also where my brain is still...back in that small room with a big basket of weddings that I still am dying to share with you from late 2008, and even from 2009. I'm so excited to share them all, that I've designated tomorrow as Official Blog Day. And every Sunday hereafter, when I'm in town, shall be dubbed Blog Day. That doesn't mean I won't be sharing photo nuggets throughout the week. No no, my friends. But it does mean that I've officially scheduled in time to keep you up on the photo news. Hooray, new focus!

Sunday's goal is to catch you up on weddings, and go from there. I count 7 that I am bursting to share with you. And then the dumpling newborns, bebes and lovebirds will all follow. Also, hope you like the new website. I spent a good month making that pup, and have not forgotten the portrait side of my life. Don't fear, I'm intending on making a brand new portrait side of things very soon, too.

For the record...okay, I know where some of the time went. I've been catching up with friends and family, enjoying one of the best Holiday Seasons ever, and getting really addicted to a few things:

As for the bridal shows, first one is coming up on the 25th, at the Grande Pointe in Vienna, WV (right next to Parkersburg). Stop by and get some free music. :)

I am continually moved by random stuff, stuff that reminds me of what's really, truly important in life (like my hubbie)...

So, randomly, I happened upon a quote that moved me...wanted to share it with you, and hope that it does the same:

So now that I'm almost caught up with wedding entries (I'm up to Mid-October!), I thought I'd reward myself with a little Max goodness. Yay!

And here it is...by request of Darcie, and thanks to the Taylors, the DOGGIE MULLET WIG!!! Hooray!! I am NOT making this up-Max got it as a gift from Michelle and Chris (and Daisy, Max's girlfriend) Taylor just a couple of weeks ago. And if I ever get sad or stressed, I pull this thing out and instantly feel much better.

Note Max's super-awesome rock star impressions. He was not yawning or trying to pull the wig off at all-just rockin' it out. Seriously. ;)

But how can you not look at him in his metal hair and smile? Right?

Also, in the bottom pic, if you make it bigger, note how the hair color brings out his eyes...

Jamie and Daniel got Married at Stonewall (WV)!

I enjoyed myself immensely at Jamie and Daniel's wedding-a weekend of sweet family togetherness, sappy love, and a beautiful couple at a super great location with outstanding fall colors. What a combination. :) Also, Daniel and Jamie have a great blend of unique styles, which I always have a tendency to naturally bond to. It was so very fun!

The new Bailey's picked an exclusive spot at Stonewall Resort to get married on. So great, in fact, that no one had ever thought of it before them. The grounds were literally just mowed before the ceremony, to create a brand new location just for them. With the great view of the pretty trees and lake behind the ceremony arch, it was mesmerizing. Jamie even arrive in a horse drawn carriage, and the two were whisked away after the ceremony, to a cool little location down below the resort lodge. I loooved it there! So pretty and romantic. And I felt so cool, being a part of Stonewall history. ;)

I am really loving so many of their wedding pics, as the sun was setting towards the end of the formal part of the wedding pictures. Yummy sunset light...great, fun couple, sappy lovin'. Perfect.

Random Awesome Side Note-The harpist played "Stairway to Heaven" for the wedding recessional. Brings a little tear to my eye. :D

Neely and Ryan-A-Ma-Zing!!!

I loved the energy Ryan and Neely had together, from the first second I met them. Granted, I actually met Neely first (which was great, in and of itself), but then when I saw these two newlyweds-to-be together for their engagement session (they came in all the way from Alaska-eek!, I felt right at home. They are the perfect blend of sappy, campy, and just genuinely kind. They even did the "Dirty Dancing" lift during the shoot, while I sang along for inspiration. Haha!

Well, once the wedding came around last month, I knew it would be a great experience before we even started. The whole day was stunning, with beautiful decorations and weather (especially for an unpredictable October wedding in WV). And we even did all the pictures beforehand, (which just makes the party come that much faster) at the carriage house right next to the little chapel used for the ceremony. This location was just beautiful, classy, perfect. And after the sweet and super fast ceremony, we even had a few minutes before the reception started to get some romantic shots out on the golf course (At Lakeview Resort in Morgantown). I have a warm place in my heart for Neely and Ryan, who's kindness is only matched by their ridiculous good looks.

And what a reception! Btw, I still have my little pink ribbon on my camera strap. :)

I sincerely hope Alaska is keeping you as warm as possible. Maybe next time you see the Northern Lights, you'll think of me just for a sec. ?

I fell in love with Darcie's sweetness as soon as I met her-that, and her love for all things photo. Kessel is a lucky man, for many reasons outside of this, but also including the sweetness and photo-love. ;) The Stone's got married on Ft. Boreman Park's scenic overlook in Parkersburg, WV, on September 20th. The day was brilliant, gorgeous, only highlighted by the lovin' that was the newlyweds. Seriously, check out the pictures to see what I was working with here-so super cute together, sappy, and fun to be around.

**While we did not get to see Saw 5 at the theater together, they are both officially also on my list of people I need to be around-even if it's only BW's that we go to (hey-nothing EVER wrong with wing night!). I'd go every day of the week with both of them, if I could! Hey, and Jay likes them both, too. "So you're completely in". Haha!** I've also fallen in love with Darcie so much, expect to hear her smiling face on the phone, and experience her kindness through customer contacts, as I've begun the velcro-to-hips process. Darcie is my official new helper-chickie. Yay!! I am surrounded by awesomeness!

So, back to pictures...pretty day, pretty couple...all in love and sappy...me, a happy photo dork. :)

My lovely lovebirds got married!!

Back in September, Dusty and David got married, and I got to photograph their wedding. I felt like I'd won a prize, as, quite honestly, I was not their contracted wedding photographer. However, I fell in love with them at their engagement session, and practically begged them to let me tag along as their "secret photographer" on their big day. Not only was I lucky enough to be that secret photogal, but I got to know their main wedding photographer (Emily Jackson), and we struck it off pretty well. She was great fun, and I hope to have the pleasure of working with her again in the future. ;)

But as for the Hurley's wedding day, I was giddy all day. Not only was it cool to be a bit more "fly-on-the-wall" than normal, but it was for a couple that are so madly in love, the opportunities for romantic candid stuff were plentiful. I've now added them to my list of people who inspire me, and thus I must make them hang out with me all the time. I've already convinced Dusty to tag along at some of my upcoming weddings, so be on the lookout for this gal to make the big time with her photo skills.

Highlights for me were the Bagpiper, the Celtic band at the reception, the genuine love and kindness they shared when they got all sappy together, the gorgeous, hot weather (with the hot colors they had, it was perfect), all the little details, any my new fascination with European hats at weddings. It's customary/traditional for the ladies to wear awesome hats to weddings, and I was so into them. Made me want to get married in Europe...maybe a renewal of vows?? At any rate, since David's family is from Ireland (still lives there, in fact), the hats were out on display (though I've heard, they're much more grandiose when in Europe as things were toned down a bit for America)...and the final highlight of the Hurley wedding? I spent hours after the reception, at the hotel's bar, chatting with both families and really just kicking back. It was fantastic, hilarious, wonderful. I'm hoping against all hope that I can keep it contact with all of David and Dusty's family, 'cause they all made me smile. To fantastic weddings and true love!

John and Laura were another couple who were so game for anything I asked of them...and thus the fashion show shoot...

Each side of the wedding party lined up and I did a (very horrible) dance mix by mouth, to which each member of the wedding party performed a fun little catwalk. Ah... good times! I had to put one of my favorite John pics from the dance off. He was a natural.

I also had the pleasure of doing all the photos before the ceremony. Yay!! I love when this can happen, and especially so when your reception is in the same building as (and immediately following) the ceremony. Since all shots were gotten before the ceremony even started, we were all able to head straight out the sanctuary doors and out into the reception in the church's foyer without missing a beat, or a bit of conversation. Plus...I'm rather fond of the images we made when John and Laura saw each other for the first time that day. Laura was so nervous, and they were so taken with each other at first site. And because of the intimacy of the meeting spot, it was just us-not everyone on the guest list. It was truly beautiful. I'd highly suggest this option, even if you're a wee bit superstitious, because the stress is all gone before you even say "I do"-the rest of the day is for celebrating. But no pressure. LOL I'm also not going to force you to do something you'd rather not do. Just sayin', it's pretty awesome if you do... :)

John and Laura, I love you both together. I can still remember how John reacted, completely and honestly, that he was soo lucky to have you, so incredibly lucky, luckier than he even knew. You're BOTH lucky, imho. I know your marriage will be amazing.

Natalie and Joshua...a party ready to happen!

I instantly felt connected to Natalie and Joshua, and it's a great thing. I didn't get the chance to meet them until rehearsal night, which is not my favorite way to document a wedding. I love to feel like I'm friends with my peoples before we walk down the aisle together. So it was more than a breath of fresh air when, as soon as I walked up to Natalie, I found out quickly that she's a hugger. Ah, the stress just melted off of me! Before I even left town after the rehearsal, it was like I'd known the happy bride and groom for years. Yay to good luck, and my strict policy ("I only work with amazing people"). I know I already posted some shots from Natalie and Joshua's wedding earlier, but they were mostly my sappiness for the "spooning" request on the signature mat, and the super-successful "come get me" shot that I adore doing. So here's to the Justice's, another tribute to your wedding. Miss you both, all the way in VA...

I loved Jennifer and Lucas from the moment I first met them-fun-loving, kind, happy, loving of the artsy fartsy, and so loving of each other. It was a treat to hang out with them and their families, and to get to know them a ll a wee bit better. When I stopped by Lucas's parents' home a few weeks before the ceremony, I was greeted by Lucas's dad's own photo portfolio (so very cool), and dinner. How great of a visit for me?? I have a weakness for all things in this day-food (garden fresh green beans...like nothing else!), photos, good company and lovebirds...not to mention Beetle and Chalupa (Beagle and Chihuahua pups, respectively). Seriously good stuff. On top of it all, the parents gave me creative freedom, to be as artsy as I wanted. And the location was to die for...

Lucas and Jennifer got married in the back yard of the family home. It was really pretty, and the party was fantastic, with a bonfire after the tent party...Man, I wish I could have camped over! Kasey, I know you're feeling me on this, too. ;)

A Stunning Wedding In Deep Creek, MD...

Laura and Kyle's wedding was so great to take in...all weekend long. It was supposed to rain, but I think the 100 plus umbrellas, given out as favors, staved off the bad weather! Rehearsal night brought a bluegrass band out to play, and got people dancing and enjoying the open air rehearsal dinner. Kyle and Laura are also really into bicycling and competing in the Iron Man competitions, so they used flashing, heart shaped bike reflectors as their place card holders at the wedding reception. Once the night came, you could see little flashing hearts all over the reception tent! This couple had really thought of so many little details, and they have hearts to match their creativity. I also particularly loved the entrance at sunset, to the site of the cocktail hour. The lawn that was used for cocktail hour was so beautiful. And with the guitar music floating over the air...well, you get the picture...with only picking a few pictures to represent the whole event, my hope is that you can get a feel for the massive celebration that was Kyle and Laura's wedding.

I'm going to do as much as I can to get a bit caught up with all the amazingness that has happened in the last several months. Seriously, this year has been such a great series of events...I'm wrapping things up in 08, forever changed. I've met so many wonderful people, and done some really fantastic sessions, I can only begin back where I left off...

Late June brought me to Kristen and Scott's wedding in Caldwell, Ohio. One of the many reasons I love Kristen and Scott is their willingness to do whatever I suggested...make silly faces, be all sappy, you name it. The weather was perfect, the day was so great, and the lovely Kasey was with me to help with the pics/flow. Here are just a few random shots from their wedding-tough to narrow them down, though!

Just got my brand new sample album from Cypress in California. Holy cow! It's soo gorgeous!! The pics don't even do it justice, but I'll try and take a few more...soonish. ;)

If you are planning on attending any bridal shows in Parkersburg in 09, I'll be at the Blennerhassett and the Grande Pointe Shows, and will have the album with me. It'll be the one I'm all gushy about! If you can't make it to one of the shows, ask me to see it if/when we meet up. I'll happily bring it along, or show you if you're here. :) Honestly, if you see me on the street, I'll probably have it in my car right now-I'm soo loving it!

The album covers (and presentation boxes) are all hand made from your choice of fabrics. The color options for the covers, books and ribbon binding are wonderful. Each image is hand matted in a thick, very sturdy watercolor paper/stock. I really love the look and feel of these high quality, fine art albums. I've never seen another album style quite like it, and have a huge crush on these albums and the company. Come on over and check this puppy out in person. Hooray, artsy!

The most romantic present!

I know many of you may think getting a box of Holl's chocolate (local yummies!) or a bouquet of roses is the ideal "romantic gift" from your honey. I, however, have a different perspective...

My birthday is coming up next week, and Jay decided to surprise me with an early gift. He couldn't really wait, because it was being shipped to our house (haha!). But I don't think he would have wanted to wait, anyway.

So last week, this shows up at our door:

I knew I needed a new office chair, but asked why he picked the one he'd picked (because I couldn't see any specific reason for this exact chair). "Well"...he started...

"I went to every office place in town and sat in every chair I could find. This was the most comfy and supportive chair I found. Then I noticed I could get it in the same color as our Family room couch, so it could be a part of the house (my home office is basically attached to the family room, so I can still chat with Jay and Max while I'm working). I also noticed the different chairs have different usage ratings. I got you a chair that's rated for moderate use, meaning you should take a break after every 5 hours or so (he says this with a wink, as I am a huge workaholic)".

To be honest, I was stunned at his response. He didn't just go get a chair because I asked him to. He really searched out the bestest. I also think about how my chair is now a "part of the home"-haha! It actually started to become cheesily metaphorical. Because in this same space in my mushy brain, I also saw this as a symbol of him supporting my career and life choices. If I was gonna be working every day, and spending so much time in front of the computer, at least I should be comfy while doing it-knowing he hand selected this chair, with specific reason, just for me.

For the record, this was my old chair:

And whilst cute, not the most comfy of the bunch. I could not believe how, after just one day in my new birthday chair, I felt soo much better/less sore than the day before. Thoughtful and romantic? Oh my, yes! Yay!

This guy!

This is my dad, who is not only tough, but very super important to me. You may wonder where I get much of my goofiness, killer smarts and stunning good looks from ;)...well he is a big part of all of that!

On a slightly different note, you may be wondering why my blog has been so crappy for a while now...why I seem disconnected at times and tough to reach right now. I'm truly, terribly sorry for all of this, but Dad has been a big part of that, too. So take it up with him, right? ;)

Honestly, to you-my favorite peoples, I have a huge crush on my job. I love what I do for a living, and pinch myself all the time because I can't believe how great my life is. I get to do such amazing things, and be all artsy fartsy. Yay! But recently I've also re-strengthened my belief that family and friends, and those you love dearly, really mean more than anything else. If you don't have people to love and share your life with, nothing else matters. I've been reminded of this quite poignantly recently, as dad had a heart attack right around Halloween. So scary!

Then, even crazier, he had to have a quintuple bypass operation. I honestly didn't know there was anything past a quadruple bypass that could even be performed. Eek!

As soon as I heard the news, I wrapped up some imminent loose ends and restructured my schedule for practically the next two weeks, only minimally keeping up with the biz and focusing almost entirely on my mom, and my family's well-being. All of the things I'd been so focused on (keeping up with work, working and working more!) suddenly seemed so small in importance.

Don't get me wrong-I love every amazing opportunity I get to document life and lovebirds-it's the stuff that dreams are made of for me. I consider you to be my friends, many, many of which I am very madly in love with. That's also why I feel so bad for slacking. I never want any of you to feel dejected. Just had to focus of my "blood family" for a while... :)

So pretty please accept this formal apology for lack of communication. Dad is finally back home after some PT, and is feisty as ever. I think it's been a wake up call for everyone at home, in so many ways.

As for business and photo-life, I am almost completely caught up again, and am in the process of restructuring the way I communicate with you. I want you all to know how important you are to me, and will therefore be taking on fewer clients per month/year, starting in 2009. Doesn't seem logical at first, but the purpose is to hug the connections I find with each client I meet. I think it's really best for everyone, as we'll all feel closer (and your images and products will be even more personalized) in the long run.

My mom and dad will thank you, too!

Flashback... August

It's time for another Flashback. This time from the August wedding of Crystal and Pat Schmidt. My good lordy, they are such a gorgeous couple. And you would think "If they're this gorgeous, they cannot also be nice"...but you'd be so wrong. Their gorgeous smiles come from the best places places-their good hearts.

The cool thing was, I got to know Crystal and Pat through one of my other amazing couples from this year-Fefe and Greg from Chicago. And if you happen to remember Fefe and Greg's wedding photos, you might remember the reception crowd surfing, the jump rope dance, or any other fun bits...Crystal and Pat's wedding/reception had a smilar kind of blend of fun and gorgeous settings/people. I got to see the jumprope dance again! And a special thanks for Crystal and Pat's willingness to pretty much do whatever crazy idea I came up with as the day went along. You're both the very best! My life rocks.

Talk about gorgeous. Really, how did I get so lucky as to photograph their wedding? I feel like Lindsay and I became a wee bit inseparable for a while, with all the stuff we talked about and "schemed" together on...in the past several months. I've had the opportunity to document their engagement and their wedding, AND we surprised Thomas with a Pinup session/book that was awesome! I'm not tooting my own horn as much as Lindsay is just the bestest. And seriously, Victoria's Secret, "look out"!

Can't see the pinup here, but if that's something you'd like to do for your main squeeze, drop me an e-mail. I do have other samples I'd be happy to share, and we could "scheme" together, too! But for now, back to the Maddox family. :)

I say family, even in the smallest sense, because Lindsay and Thomas are not complete without their pup, Daphne. We were so glad to have her at the wedding (she got so sick a few days before, and we weren't sure she'd make the road trip!), as she makes everyone (especially "grandpa's") heart sing a bit. But really, both sides of the family were so fantastic.

Ah, so many things to say! The entire wedding day took place at the beautiful Blennerhassett Hotel in downtown Parkersburg. I always love when everything happens at one venue-so convenient. The weather was perfect, and we got some really fun and pretty pictures all day long. Saying "thanks for sharing your day with me" seems like an understatement, and yet is a bit sad. I'm only hoping that now that the big day has passed, I'll still get to keep tabs on the Maddox family.

I am truly sorry the 'ol blog got away from me this summer. I have had so many great experiences and photo oos, it's sometimes hard to decide where to start with blogging. But where better to start than at the beginning?

I started losing track of things back in June, when wedding season hit full swing. I think the best way to catch up on all things fantastic would be to do random "flashbacks" throughout the fall, until I'm officially caught up. So here goes July...

The Nolands!!
I really think I may be in love with Kathleen and Mason. From the moment we met at my home, joked about combining love stories with shoot-em-up movies, shared some Richard Cheese (music) and casually frolicked in the City Park-in the freezing cold (!), I knew they were something special. Rarely do I feel such kindness from two people I've just met. And I made them laugh, which always makes me feel good. ;)

Before I knew it, it was wedding time, and I was honestly really excited (I'm such a hopelessly romantic photo-dork!) to be a part of their big weekend. Because Kat and Mason rock so much, I was able to take just 5 minutes in a nearby field to get some of my very favorite images ever. The sunset made the field soo golden, and there was nothing else to see but field. Yum! And they ran, and even knelt down in the field for me. Yay! The image at the top of the blog right now is also one of the images from their wedding, and I honestly just loved them all.

I thought about Kat and Mason today, as I finished their wedding album preview, and feel so lucky to have met them both. If they love each other half as much as I love them, they'll have a very good life. :)

I'm practically giddy with excitement for how great this year has been! I have been surrounded by fantastic lovebirds and dumplings, and they only inspire me to be around MORE lovebirds and dumplings. Seriously, if it was up to me, I would be surrounded by sappiness all year, every day! At any rate, I've been looking through my calendar, doing a little reflecting and have decided to have a big, bad wedding contest! Yaaay!

Here's the deal, over the course of October, I'll be accepting essays (photo, written, sound recordings, etc.) on "Serendipity, and the Concept of Soul Mates".

Use whatever media you're comfy with. Be creative, have fun with it...It's all about love. Real, earth-shattering, life changing, flip-you-on-your-head love. Sappy love, goofy love... :) It's about how you "knew" it was exactly right, or a clarifying moment when it all made sense to you, that you'd found your soul mate. And it's about the funny things that may have happened along the way, leading you to where you are today. It seems like I just returned the other day, but before I knew it, two weeks had passed since my return. I have photographed 2 beautiful weddings and a loving handful of bebes, lovebirds, and wonderful people since I returned home. I've met so many great people and learned a few great tricks...and I think I'm finally on my way to hiring a small, much-needed cluster of staff. Yippee!

In addition to some new favorite food posts I need to make (for the record, Lui Lui now has a pizza shop in Parkersburg-WOW-EAT THERE TODAY!), I need to get back to basics, gushing about the amazing people my job allows me to meet and explore every day.

For now, I thought I'd post a few pics from my trip to Hawaii with the hubby and my parents. Was it beautiful? Soooo very beautiful! Would I do it again? Now that I've processed everything completely, I'd do it again in a heartbeat! Amidst all the great food (hey, I love food!), and amazing dancing and music, there were so many kind people and even a dog that looked just like my Max! For now, here are a few of me and the hubby...

So, I just wanted to send a friendly reminder about the office being closed from September 4th-12th-ish. Yeah, I'm a sucker for sappy love birds, and my parents are celebrating their 40th anniversary next week...so what better way to celebate than to go to Hawaii?? I will have my phone with me for emergencies, but will most likely not be answering calls/emails until the 14th (a Sunday). Sorry for the inconvenience, but love calls! I love summer. I love it about as much as I love sappy, lovey peoples. :) My final post for now is a few images I'm really excited about from my last few months of weddings and engagement sessions...and trust me, it was TOUGH to narrow it down to just a large handful. I wish all of you whose wedding or engagement session (or Day After session) I've photographed recently tons of luck deciding on your favorites. I love them all!!

I've been meaning to write about this for some time. But as happens with all amazing things, they're just never far from the front of your mind.

When I was in high school, one of my very good friends, Kameela, gave me a "just because" card. The message was simple, but poignant:

"Today, give a stranger the gift of your smile. It's the best gift you have."

Many great things have been tossed around in my head in the years between, but this little random card stuck tight to my memory. To this day, I try to give at least one stranger a smile-a pure, genuine smile-especially if they look cranky or sad. I myself have had the same happen to me when I was cranky or sad (receiving a random smile from a stranger), and it's amazing what a boost that was for my day.

As a bonus, when you smile, you can't help but look fantastic. :) Some of my very favorite smiles from this summer:

This is it, I'm officially doing a bit o blogging. Hooray!

Even if I only get a couple of posts done today, I'm still doing them...not going to bed until I do. :)

I think I'd like to allow my blog to do a bit of a transformation. I want to keep updating with new pictures, but I've also had so many ideas and events happen that I want to share. I'd like to keep sharing things outside of photos. If you want me to stop, just say "Michelle, seriously...no more babbling!". But it's what I do-thus the 'ol blog name. :)

But truly, I haven't a clue where July or the first part of August have gone. Eek!

I have a super-ton of sessions and weddings to talk about, mini-updates on my life, and a couple more specials to send your way. I can only imagine how frustrating it is to check out a soggy blog-with no new updates for weeks. I reassure you, you've been in my heart.

A few highlights/major updates-
No surgery yet, I get to be a case study at Ohio State! Thinking some time in November will be the new date...to answer some of the serious questions, it's not life-threatening. So I'm just playing the waiting game. No worries.

I have been crossing stuff off of my Bucket List like crazy-One of my very favorites-I went to the Snowshoe Mountain Chili Cook Off in July, and got this cute little piece done of Jay and me. It's going on our wall as soon as I get a moment to shop for frames. :) Dude, we are so cute as cartoons!

I even tried the chili you had to sign a waiver to eat! I tried to be tough, but my eyes watered like a bebe. More food stuff...

A sweet gal named Kendall (I'll be posting a few of her pictures soon) taught me how to make Shrimp Etoufee (a cajun dish I used to love in college) a couple of weeks ago. I will never be the same. YUM! I officially made a roux. It was awesome!

I have been home 4 days this month, with trips to: Columbus, NYC, Deep Creek Maryland, and now heading off to Mannington, WV for a wedding I'm really, really excited about. :) I love to travel-speaking of which...I'm thinking of a new destination wedding special for 2010. I'll post it here, first. As for more travel news...

Saved up to take my parents to Hawaii for their 40th anniversary! Yayyyy! We'll be gone early September, from the 4th-12th. I'm soo happy I could do this. I hope to take tons of pictures of my parents being all cute on their "Honeymoon". :)

As for future projects-Still working on the self-esteem workshops. Hoping to get a stronger outline this Winter, with events starting early next year. I can't wait to get this rolling. And the list of people offering to help out warms my heart. I think this project could be huge. Well, I don't want it to involve thousands of people (yet), but I think the impact it will have will send ripples out. Sooo excited!

I have been recently amazed at the booming success of MWP. Woah. Seriously, I'm just a girl with a camera...a dork, even. I am constantly amazed that so many people allow me to connect with them on levels so deep we catch amazing things with my little cameras. My job is really the best ever. But as I always say...I'm only as good as my models. Thanks for being the best models a girl could hope for!

Updates and Stuff...

As half of the year wraps up, I've been thinking back to how great the year has been so far, and how great the rest of the year is about to be. I've been so moved by the families I've met and the new friends I've made... and even more so by being reminded of how great the friends I've had along the way have all been. I'm surrounded by greatness. I'm just lucky enough that I tend to have a camera in hand to remind myself later on. :)

If I'd try to think back to several years ago, when I was just starting out on my own, running a new business, and then try to project myself to where I am today, I'd have to say I've already exceeded my expectations. So you know what that means-higher expectations! Haha!

What's on the agenda for the rest of the year? Lots. Firstly, to update my awesome friends, I'm not having surgery tomorrow as planned. It's been rescheduled for possibly July 7th, but I'll know more tomorrow. I get all verklempt when I look over the last couple o' days of e-mails, because the amount of lovin' and support has been overwhelming. I can't imagine my recovery will be slow, because I can honestly feel the love coming from all over the place for me to get better.

Secondly, one of my biggest dreams is possibly about to come true. I've just been paired up with a local Parkersburg gal who is going to help me run special workshops all year long, helping teenagers build up their self-esteem. I had huge self-esteem issues as a teenager (when nothing is cool), and had a life-changing experience when just one person helped me to understand how to love myself. I want to offer that gift to as many people as possible, because I know every person has something gorgeous and very cool about them. And it's time to celebrate it! Sarah and Scott's Wedding...ah, romance!!

Sarah and Scott's wedding was a dream. Take two beautiful people (inside and out) and put them together, surround them with nothing but great friends and family who really, genuinely love them and support them (and want nothing more than to celebrate!), and you have the perfect day that was Scott and Sarah's wedding. I have so many favorite photos from their big day, I could post them all as my favorites. After much deliberation, I picked a "few". I wish you both more than the very best. From the second I first saw Dusty and David together last week, I really fell in love with them. I'm sure it was nothing like when they first laid eyes on each other-Haha! But honestly, they're such a wonderful couple. Besides David's Irish accent, I was told Dusty took pictures "just like me". So we're really photo soul mates. It was super easy to get them to go along with any of my ideas because we all felt at home with each other. I don't know who was laughing more, them or me. What a fantastic day! Originally I had other plans on their wedding day, come this September, but am in the middle of moving things around to hopefully just stop by their ceremony and shed a happy tear or two for true love.

Hard to fathom. I've been with little Saw bug since she was 3 months old. I think we've grown so much together. Haha! I was so excited when Sawyer's mom asked me to photograph her first birthday party as her 1-year session. How perfect! Saw was on stage all day, hamming it up for her party guests and the camera. LOVE these pictures! But honestly, can't pick favorites very easily. I'm thinking maybe mini album. :)

I really love the picture of her little foot on the tricycle, because it shows one of the last times her foot won't reach the pedal. :)

How cool is it when you get to see a couple more than once before their wedding? John was in a wedding I photographed last December, so when I saw he and his fiance walk up to me last Wednesday for the start of their engagement session in Charleston, I had a "Hey!" moment. How flattering. The session went super smooth, hopping all over the lawn behind Riggleman hall on campus (the views of the Capitol Building behind Riggleman are so great!), until huge drops of rain came out of nowhere. Made for cool lighting, though. Haha! Looks like I had a spotlight on them at times. Laura and John, you are both so fun. Looking forward to lots more in August!

Ooh! Also check out the new logo proof! I have been meaning to do this for a while, and it will now be the standard on my proofs. Yay!

I know I say it about all my brides and grooms, but I just love Miranda and Jeremy. When it comes down to it, I have to admit I'm just really blessed with the best couples and people. Being a photographer has genuinely enriched my life, and one of the reasons I'm so enriched is from seeing examples of love like this happy couple shows and has for each other. They just glowed when thy were together. And they're ridiculously good looking. :)

Plus they have a really cute dog that I can't get enough of. We photographed him for their engagement pictures. And I was so excited to see Fudgems the morning of the wedding during the getting ready time.

I completely LOVED photographing Jackson at his grandparents' farm for his second birthday. His mom really took my portrait questions to heart (which I also loved!), and thought about what Jackson could be doing for fun in his pictures. So, I am absolutely in love with Jodi and Brock. It was an unusual wedding experience for me at first-having never met the bride and groom before the night of the rehearsal (wow, I'm so happy I go to the rehearsals!). However, within minutes of meeting the soon-to-be's, I truly felt I'd known them forever. The entire wedding weekend was fantastic, starting at a family church in Wheeling, and ending at a very fun outdoor reception at Oglebay Park. We even had that perfect overcast "chance of rain" weather that didn't let the rain happen until our "pictures at the park" were all done. Then it only rained long enough to cool things off. Quite honestly, Jodi had some of the best wedding hair I'd ever seen. I was talking about it all day. Haha! And the floral accents were perfect, too!

So many personal touches, so much happiness. Especially loved the cupcake tree (with the little sugar bride and groom!) and the pictures hanging on twine by clothespins, throughout the reception area. :) And naturally, it was so wonderful to document a couple that's completely in love. It was so easy to love the whole experience. :)

I can't even believe as I'm typing this that June is almost over. So many exciting and crazy things have been going on, I've hardly been able to keep up. I'll update as much as possible tonight, and hope to add a few more updates over the weekend.

Many of you may know by now, but I have to have some minor surgery on Monday. It's no big deal, but that's why the studio will be closed for 10 days or so. I absolutely hate that I have to do this during the middle of summer, and only hope my recovery is much faster than estimated.

It has been really humbling and warming to get so many words of love and support in the past several days. Can't even tell you what that means to me. Because of love like yours, I'll be better in no time flat. At any rate, on to photo updates!!

Happy Anniversary to the Burnfields!

Tiffany and Brandon just celebrated their 1 year wedding anniversary with pictures. Obviously, I don't know of a better way to celebrate. :) I really enjoyed spending my Sunday with Tiffany and Brandon, and Tiffany's "boyfriend" Ziggy. I understand the love-he's quite the rock star. Matter of fact, Max may be getting a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel as a little brother or sister very soon, as I'm absolutely in love with the breed, now. It's pretty easy to see why Ziggy has turned out to be such a great pup. His parents are very much in love with each other and with him.

The highlights of the day for me were showcasing Mr. Ziggy's cuteness and heading over to Civitan Park in Belpre. At the park, it was just the three of us. But we got the chance to do some fun, romantic shots on the dock, in the grass, and on the very crooked bench! Thank you for trusting me enough to let your guards down. I think we got some extra cool images because of that. :)

The Yoak Family at North Bend

I love the Yoak family! We shared a summer-like day of playing at North Bend State Park for our first family session together. I think it was the perfect setting for some comfy family photos-lots of beautiful trees and just enough shade. John even brought his father's gorgeous antique truck for a few pictures, which I really loved in the background of the color washed pictures we did of the boys.

Leslie cracked me up the other day when she e-mailed me after seeing the image gallery and said: "You were right, we didn't seem stressed or chaotic at all :) Who Knew?!". It's always fun photographing a family, or anyone, for the first time. My style of shooting tends to be a bit relaxed, so often people think the pictures might not be turning out well as we're shooting, and I totally understand. Usually I'll let people see some of my favorite images as we go along, as not having lots of posing or structure to a photo session can be hard to wrap your head around at first. But I really think the natural pauses in between the "poses" are the best stuff. By the time we near the close of the session, there are no more worries left, and we really just have fun. I think Roman and Landon had a great time playing at the park with their parents. I know I did.

The day we did engagement photos was quite an experience. Yes it was a Saturday. But in the small town I'm from, even on a Saturday it's not tooo crazy busy. That's not so much the case in Columbus! Especially at the conservatory, which is where it seemed like everyone wanted to go. Haha! The Franklin Park Conservatory seemed like a fantastic spot to start our session. And while it really was (the inside of the conservatory has some great landscaping-love it!), there were also 3 weddings going on there that day, PLUS an asian festival. Wow! We grabbed a large handful of shots there, and dashed off to downtown for some variety. I'll tell you what, Ohio State's campus, downtown, and even near the broad street bridge... everywhere we went, there was a wedding taking place, getting ready to take place, or just ending. It was so funny! I consider it a great bit of good luck-lovebirds everywhere. I don't think they'll need much luck, though... gorgeous, sweet and absolutely in love.

I had the pleasure of photographing the Gray family last weekend. It was funny-the original plan was to mostly document little Brandon hanging out with his family (as you can see, he pretty much rocks). He was so great to watch, especially once he got his little lawn mower out in the yard-he really went to town! And the expressions he made on the porch swing and rocking chair outside were so great! However... Ms. Macie tried her best to steal the show (given that I love the puppies so much, it wasn't a tough job!) with her cuteness. While I loved her to pieces, I really enjoyed the entire family. Thanks for sharing your home and Friday morning with me-can't think of a place I'd rather have been!

Devon and Jeff got married mid-May, and I couldn't be happier for them! :) I'll never forget how happy they were to be in each other's company, and how excited they were to marry each other. One of the things I've kept with me from the ceremony, and just from getting to know them both, is how taken by Jeff's soul Devon truly is. You'd have to meet them both to really understand-they're genuinely great people you feel like you've known your whole life. The subject of the soul just kept coming up in conversation all weekend, and was even part of their wedding vows. And to know them, it makes sense... a beautiful soul... what a great compliment.

To have two people who can give everything, and be so happily, giddily in love, it's nothing short of inspirational. Here are some of my favorite images from the day... look at how very in love they are-so sweet!

Sara and Bret's Lovebird Session

I have to tell you, I truly enjoy Sara and Bret's company. From the second I met both of them, I felt like I'd known them forever. Sara and Bret live in the Washington DC area, are getting married in Parkersburg, WV (near me), and wanted to do their engagement pictures in the DC area, where the locations would have lots of meaning. I love DC, so I figured why not bring along the hubby, make a weekend trip out of it, and get some fun, personal pictures in the process??

Sara and Bret are really fun to be around, and are absolutely in love. How else could I get them to slow dance in Union Station on a busy Saturday morning, or pretend like they're meeting for the first time-all over again-outside of a subway stop? The connections we ended up making in the camera mean so much to me. The trust they've already shown me, paired with their senses of humor (I felt so at home!), make an incredible combination. Not even the rain could stop us. I absolutely cannot wait until the wedding next year!

Beth and Matt got married!

What a beautiful weekend this turned out to be. :) Matt and Beth came down all the way from New Hampshire to get married in Parkersburg on May 3rd. Their ceremony took place in the beautiful tent in the Blennerhassett hotel's courtyard. Afterward, we all continued the celebration until the wee hours, in the hotel's ballroom.

I love how playful Matt and Beth are together-so sweet. They were laughing and smiling all day. Beth was really up for anything for her pictures, and was such a good sport for me. Actually, the entire wedding party was fantastic. Thanks for all your love!

The next day we (Matt, Beth, Beth's mom and I) decided to make the most of a beautiful Sunday and take a trip to Blennerhassett Island for just a few more images. I'm so glad we did! They ended up being some of my favorites from the whole weekend! The added bonus was Beth's mom got married right at the spot where we did some of these island pictures. I also got the learn a bit more about how Beth and Matt got to know each other while dating, even up to and including the proposal, while on the little ferry boat back and forth from the island. I'm so addicted to learning about relationships and how people fall in love...

So congrats to the Colsons! Your big day was so beautiful, just like both of you. Hope your smiles grow bigger every day. :)

Amy and Mike and the amazing Red Dress!

This was the session that took place as a result of a series of being in the right places at the right times. I've always wanted to photograph a fun, different wedding dress...and...

I am so in love with this deep red wedding dress. I think it's absolutely stunning. One of my very favorite Parkersburg bridal shops, J&J's Personal Touch, happened to have this amazing dress at thier shop, and wanted me to photograph it for their new window display. I showed up on session day, and saw my model in that dress...seriously, they couldn't have made a better choice. Amy rocks, has a stunning look, and is a lovebird (getting married on May 31st). When I found out she was getting married, and her fiance was at the bridal shop hanging out, I practically begged him (though I really didn't have to) to join in on the session. I loved having him in some of the pictures. I really felt like Amy was happiest when being with Mike, or looking at him. And you can't really blame her. They're great together. If our session is anything like your marriage, you'll last forever. :)

Thanks for being supermodels, being game for all my goofy ideas, and really making the whole "fashion shoot" experience easy and fun. I am grateful to you both.
